Rusty Clevenger for Spartanburg Coroner

I am pleased to announce that I will be a candidate for your Coroner in 2008.  I am a 44  year old Spartanburg resident concerned about the Office that Coroner Jim Burnett intends to vacate due to retirement in January 2009.

Spartanburg County is where my wife and I choose to live, worship, work, and raise our children.  I have been the CSI and Forensic Coordinator since 2005, when Sheriff Wright and Solicitor Gowdy, formed the unit and appointed me to assist with forensic training and evidence testing for all Police and Highway Patrol agencies in Spartanburg.  I was a patrol deputy for 2 years, a vice investigator for 3 years, a Sheriff's property crime Detective for 2 years, a Sheriff's violent crime detective for 4 years, a Solicitor's violent crime and capital murder investigator for 8 years until assuming my current position.  I have been trained in all aspects of death investigation to include homicide, suicide, natural, accidental investigation, and wreck death re-construction (See Curriculum Vitae on other section of website). 

I feel more than qualified to be your Coroner with the investigative, prosecutorial and crime scene education and experience I currently possess.  Forensic training and testing are paramount in any death case to rule the manner of a death and explain the circumstances to a family or friends.

I interact with Fire and Rescue services frequently on evidence and crime scene issues, Police Officers and Coroner's investigators on legal and forensic issues as well as cause and manner of death constantly.  I also deal with hospital officials periodically for records for prosecution and testimony in the daily performance of my duties.

Spartanburg is where my family enjoys civic outings, dinner,  movies, church functions, and a healthy social lifestyle.  I am pleased to be a part of your law enforcement and prosecution team here at home.  Spartanburg deserves our best and I feel more than qualified to take over the Coroner's Office and lead it in a manner of excellence that I have shown in my past 22 years.
